My husband and I have had our little rescue dog, Oscar, for over five years now. Since we added him to our family, he's only had herbal medicine, homeopathy, and Bowen therapy for any aliments he's suffered.
When we first got him, he wasn't the least bit afraid of storms then for no apparent reason he became terrified of the thunder and lightning, gun shots, and very loud noises. Strangely enough, fireworks don't bother him.
I tried everything I could think of to help ease his fear. Wrapping him in a large bandage, dosing him with passionflower, oats, and chamomile herbal extracts; activities he enjoyed such as brushing his coat, treats, putting on the television to mask the sound of thunder, and giving him Bach Flower Rescue Remedy or Australian Bush Flower Emergency Essence at the first sound of thunder. To my disappointment none of these helped.
Having used the Australian Bush Flowers Essences in my clinic for many years, I know how effective they are for humans, animals and birds. I also know that in some cases the emergency essence has to be administered as a treatment instead of during an emergency.
So for two weeks I gave Oscar a dose of the emergency essence twice a day and noticed a good improvement in him during storms. Although he is still fearful he no longer shows signs of terror such as trembling badly, salivating, and wanting to be on his own in a dark corner. Now he stays with us, trembles slightly and lies next to me. His new favourite place during a storm is under my desk on his mattress.
The main ingredient in the emergency essence that has helped Oscar is Grey Spider Flower, which among other problems, is a treatment for terror. Next I am going to administer 4 to 6 drops of Grey Spider Flower stock essence to him twice a day for two weeks and also when there's a storm. Hopefully, that will reduce his fear even more, but so far I'm very pleased with the result he's had from the emergency essence treatment.
I will let you know the outcome.
Update 18th January, 2018: I tried the Grey Spider Flower stock essence as above, and it made no difference to Oscar. It seems that while he has improved well after being administered with the Emergency Essence our little dog may never totally overcome his fear of storms. At least he is nowhere near as afraid as he was so I guess that's a bonus.
