Now the flu season is with us I thought I'd share this wonderful old herbal cough syrup recipe that not only relieves coughs but also soothes sore throats.
500 ml water
1 heaped teaspoon dried sage leaves or 2 heaped teaspoons fresh sage leaves, finely chopped.
apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon honey
Put the water in a saucepan and add the sage. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Strain into a measuring jug and add an equal quantity of the vinegar and one tablespoon honey. Mix well. Pour into bottles, screw on the lids and label.
One teaspoonful for adults and half a teaspoon for children can be taken when necessary.
